In order to boost laptop sales and get to a size where local production is a viable option, Lee said Samsung Global will closely collaborate with its Indian operations.
"We value the Indian market for a number of reasons, and we are aware of the value of "made in India" products there. Consequently, a large portion of our Galaxy devices are made in-country "Samsung Electronics vice president Mincheol Lee spoke to the media. "Like we did for other markets, we will surely investigate the prospect of making laptops domestically if we can see adequate volume and scale of this business in the India market."
In order to boost laptop sales and get to a size where local production is a viable option, Lee said Samsung Global will closely collaborate with its Indian operations.
In April 2022, India introduced a production-linked incentive programme for IT hardware, but it did not attract many participants. The failure of the programme has been attributed by hardware manufacturers to the poor incentive structure, as the median incentive rate of 2.5% does not support moving manufacturing from China or Vietnam for hardware items.
In order to entice international corporations like Dell, HP, Apple, Samsung, and Asus to expand production in the nation, the government is now considering sweetening the programme and raising the financial expenditure by 2.5 times, to roughly Rs 19,000 crore.
In 2020, Samsung returned to the laptop industry, and in 2021, the company expanded into 21 new nations, including India. With the help of laptops marketed for students, businesses, and individuals seeking a flagship experience, the company hopes to capture a double-digit market share in India.
Samsung faces off against companies like Apple, HP, Lenovo, Dell, and Acer in India.
The Indian market is well known for having higher aspirations for luxury products, and there is an increased demand for premium features and PC devices, according to Lee.
